bye, bye mr. wall

Remember me mentioning that when our roomie moved out we were going to open up our basement? So this past weekend our roomie moved out which meant demo time! Jared and I were ready to tear this beast of a dividing wall down and open up our basement!

Adios Roomie! We helped him move, and his mattresses almost flew out on the freeway! It was terrifying!

So back to the story. I got excited and started with the demo a little early. You have to look close, but there are secret messages deep within. I did these artworks with a hammer. That is pure talent right there.

Here are some before pictures of the wall and what the 2 rooms that are now united as one USED to look like. We live in a town home, and this is the basement. The thing is that we want as much space as possible, and the builder wanted as many rooms as possible. My thoughts are that when he put this wall in he thought that he could say home office AND TV room, instead of JUST a TV room. Ya know? But in reality this little room has a bedroom on the other side and also the laundry room door is in here. So It just needs to be opened up to create our secret entertainment layer. Okay it won't be a secret. But it will  be awesome!

Our demolition begins. Jared, Laughter (our other roomie) and I took this wall down all by ourselves. We are such big kids :)

Then I found out there was this AWESOME beautiful header under that mess, and I decided I wanted to leave it exposed. So you know what I did right? I sanded it and I stained it and it looks so beyond awesome. I kind of want to sleep down there and then when Jared is asleep I want to wake up and kiss the header! The pictures were taken this morning at like 2am, so don't judge the lighting. Just look at the color, and the grain okay. Because those are incredible. Don't judge the corners, and nails spot. I still haven't gotten around to that. I promise I will. Maybe tonight.

What do you think? Did we make the right choice in tearing down the wall? Leaving the header exposed?

    1. It's my favorite! Well my favorite is definitely the demo, but the patching and putting it back together, is not my favorite at all.

    1. We definitely did! I have been wanting to take the wall down for the past year, and we never had a real way to until our roommate moved out so we could use his room too and make our basement a total area of fun! Anyway, I was super EXCITED to finally tear it down! Thanks, Dana!

    1. It is brighter too, open and bright - we win! Our plan is to turn it into the hang out area, we have a pool table and a foosball table so we will probably put those back up and then have friends over every day!
