I have been asking lots of questions on twitter and Facebook lately. I am really trying to grow my readership and get the most out of all the channels there are! I decided to write up a conclusions of the top 3 questions I was wondering, so that all you blogging fools much like myself could benefit from the feedback that I have been getting. We will keep it simple and sweet. However if you have more advice on these topics or any other topics that you have come to love while blogging I beg of you PLEASE SHARE!
- Twitter - I have come to LOVE twitter. I feel kind of silly, because I was so against getting one for so long. I love it for blogging because, it’s easy to get ahold of other bloggers. It is real time information, I find out first when people need someone to guest post for them or questions that other bloggers can answer for me. It’s a fun network. I also follow mostly bloggers on twitter, which makes it my go to place for anything blogging related. As oppose to my personal Facebook, which I choose not to contaminate with all my blogging knowledge :)
- Facebook for your blog - Do it! If you are wondering or debating if you should do this, the answer is definitely. It is kind of the god of social networks. Everyone has a Facebook, not everyone has a twitter or a blog. So for all those people who don’t have GFC or twitter a Facebook page for your blog is the best way for them to keep up. However I do highly suggest that you ask questions, post photos, and do more with this Facebook page than just say “New Post”. Annoucing that you have a new post up is totally awesome, seriously. I just think that you want to give your page personality with photos and questions, so people can interact on your page.
- Consistency - Be consistent! I can’t tell you this enough. Whether it means scheduling posts ahead of time or however you want to make sure your blog is consistent. Just do it! The most annoying thing to me is finding a blog you love that is posting 5 times a week, and then all the sudden a month goes by with no updated. Then when they reappear I’m not as compelled to read their new posts.
I completely agree on consistency! My favorite bloggers update 4-5 times a week. It really keeps me interested in their lives and their story! Twitter is a great tool. I'm glad you caved and got one.
ReplyDeleteconsistency should be number 1 for sure! I am way more interested and build a better readership when there's a consistent amount of posting. Also I am really glad I caved too. I love my twitter now! =) I am tweeting like a mad man!
DeleteUgh, does this mean I have to make a Facebook page now? Grrrr.
ReplyDeleteP.S. LET'S BE TWITTER FRIENDS.
YES TWITTER TWEEPS? Be prepared for an abundance of me tweeting at you giiiirrrrrl!!
DeleteAlso yes I conclude you must now also make a facebook. =)
Love these tips. I don't have a Facebook for my blog...hmmm....I'll have to think about that one!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get one until about a month or two ago. I kept thinking that it was necessary, but since I have made it a lot of people from facebook that I had no idea read my blog subscribed to the page. It's fun too see who reads, plus it's nice to not always promote yourself on your personal page (which I shamelessly did).
DeleteI totally agree on consistency. I love it when the blogs I follow update regularly because I feel like I'm a part of their life. Ha. It's too demanding for me to post everyday so I tend to post about 2-3 times a week. I've got a facebook page, but I don't update other things except when I post. I need to make more of an effort to post pictures or random things. Thanks for the tip!!

2-3 times a week is totally fine, as long as that's your thing. It's when someone posts everyday sometimes twice a day and then you don't hear from them for over a week that I consider it inconsistent! =)
DeleteI think it's more entertaining and more of a plus to liking blog fb pages if they have personality. I think I like your page, but I am going to go look for it!
AGREED! Great tips, Miki.
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily! I was hoping you'd agree!
DeleteGreat tips, although I've been terrible at #3 this week! Ha!
ReplyDeletexox!
ha ha ha! Everyone has weeks like that!
DeleteThese are great tips that I completely agree with although I'm still trying to get a facebook for my blog. I was actually reading blogging tips yesterday and one that I thought was really great was having your comments set as the pop up box. I hadn't thought of it before reading but the tip mentioned how sometimes it may keep readers from commenting on more than one post because they have to constantly upload your blog page each time. It's so easy to switch, just go to settings on blogger and there should be a box you check to switch it. By the way I'm not saying you should change yours, I'm just sharing a tip for whoever is interested...it's a preference I guess.

That is really interesting. I have never thought of that before at all. It does make sense though. I usually just close the tab after I comment, so having the window would kind of guide readers back to your blog instead of exiting the window. I am going to try that. You're awesome! Thanks, Erica!
DeleteI finally gave in and got a twitter account, but I still feel too silly to get a FB for my blog! I may get over that eventually, though, we'll see :)
ReplyDeleteOther tips I've heard are to make sure you get rid of the silly "Prove you're not a robot" text before someone can comment...that's just frustrating (I NEVER get it right the first time haha!). Also, I've heard that you shouldn't be afraid to reach out to other bloggers you admire for button swaps and guest posts, etc. And be genuine, obviously! If you've got a beautiful blog with genuine, entertaining writing, you'll gain followers in no time! :)
Oooh I HATE the word verification. I always get it wrong the first time. Sometimes I am on a roll, like I've read 5 blogs left comments and am cruising then I get stuck at a word verification and it really ruins the vibe I've got going on! The swaps helped me gain readers like no ones business. It took me 2 years to get to 40, and then I started to leave comments and swap buttons and I seriously went from 40 in january and now I am at like 160! It's a great way to get your name out. Plus you do have an awesome blog! I am always an avid reader of any fur parent blogs :)
DeleteWe love your blog!

Thanks girls! I just was browsing your posts, you both are adorable and have the cutest fashion blog!
Deletetwitter is definitely important in the blogging world. and quite addicting. who are some of your favorite celebrities to follow??
ReplyDeletexo TJ
Hey TJ! I definitely agree, I can see how useful twitter is now and how often I use it :) Hmm I haven't gotten into the celebrities realm too much, but I do follow Zooey Deschanel, Emmy Rossum and Jonah Hill. They are all pretty great. Emmy Rossum is fun to follow!
DeleteAgreed!! Twitter is the best blogger-communication out there. <33
ReplyDeleteSeriously. I was so against it, and now I am all about it! I love it.
DeleteThanks for sharing these tips! I recently started bloggin' and I really have no idea what I'm doing. There's so much out there to learn, I feel like I'm stuck out in the middle of shark infested water without my arm floaties!
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome! I know that "drowning" feeling. It seems like there is so much to learn with blogging, and also like there is so much expected. Just always remember to be true to yourself and why you started the blog, and you'll do great! I had a bunch of bloggers compile a list of "tips and tricks" for blogger if you'd like to take a look at it.
